SCAN ITEMS QUICKLY AND EASILY

Basil makes the critical process of adding books simple and efficient. Scan the 13-digit EAN or ISBN and Basil will automatically download the title, author, publisher, publish date, and retail price for you. No CDs required.

BUY ANYTHING (BOOKS, CDS, DVDS, GAMES, Instruments, Vinyl)

Give buying clerks the right information to make critical inventory purchasing decisions. Basil provides sales information for the title and author of a book to help determine how well it will sell in your store. Basil provides the current on-hand quantity and the Amazon pricing information for the title, including the lowest new, used and collector price, the quantity in each of these conditions, the sales rank, and the average of the lowest 10 prices. This information helps your clerk make a well-informed inventory decision. Set rules as guidelines for your staff to help make the pricing of books more consistent.

Basil allows you to scan the UPC on your CDs, DVDs, and video games that you take for trade. Define rules for how these items should be priced just as you would for books brought in for trade. Post these items online to be sold on various markets, including Amazon, Alibris, and others.

Sell Online

Upload your in-store book inventory to the following online markets:

  • Amazon

  • Abe

  • Alibris

  • Biblio

  • Bibliopolis

  • Chrislands

Choose how much inventory you want to post online and at what price. Create a market SKU when you are adding items to inventory, if the online price is attractive. If a book comes through your door selling for $100, you can create the market SKU immediately and make it available for uploading to the various markets. Basil allows for a different price on each market and the online price can be different than your in-store price.

Basil automatically uploads your inventory every 15 minutes throughout the day. Additions or sales are automatically uploaded and synchronized with the markets. This ensures that in-store sales are reflected quickly on each market, which reduces the number of refunds. Basil can upload inventory directly to Amazon, Abe, Alibris, Biblio, and Chrislands. If you are looking for your own e-commerce site, we suggest using the Chrislands.com service. It is inexpensive and very stable.

Basil automatically downloads orders from online markets to make shipment processing more efficient. We currently support Amazon, Abe, Alibris, Biblio, Chrislands, and Barnes & Noble. Create pick lists, packing slips, and postage for the orders downloaded. Basil integrates with Dazzle, Intelligent Business Shipping (IBS) and Desktop Shipper to support the printing of postage and shipping the product. Basil also makes it easy to cancel online orders. There is no need to check each market, just take a look at the automated orders screen and you'll know what you need to ship.

CUSTOMER REQUESTS

Create book requests for items not in your store. Create the request by ISBN, title, or author and when a book is added to your inventory that matches the request, a message will alert you with who requested the book and their contact information. You can print the message and put it with the book while you call your customer to let them know it has arrived.

Customers

Collect customers’ phone numbers, addresses, and emails to support your store’s marketing efforts. Track every book a customer purchases as well as every book they sell back to the store. Basil allows you to notify a customer when they have previously purchased the same item so as to avoid duplicate copies in their personal library. Basil provides the data and capabilities that enable you to excel in customer service. More information is available here.

MULTI-STORE BY DEFAULT

Basil allows for more than one store to be configured for each customer. Each store operates independently and has its own sections, users, sales, and customers. Customers do have a default store, but can be accessed easily at other locations in the chain to take advantage of their in-store credit, frequent buyer, or customer discounts. Data synchronization isn’t necessary; each store’s operations can be seen immediately by every other store. If a clerk sees that a book is available, they can trust that the data is correct and up-to-date. Sales are also reflected immediately so a manager can view sales throughout the day for each store by running a simple report.

FREQUENT BUYER AND CUSTOMER DISCOUNTS

Configure discounts per customer depending on your store’s policy. Enroll your customer in a frequent buyer program that is tracked in Basil and applied automatically when making a purchase. Set specific customer discounts that are applied each time they make a purchase. Many stores will offer teacher discounts, for example.

MULTIPLE CONDITIONS AND STORE SECTIONS

Assign multiple conditions per ISBN at varying price points. Put the same ISBN in several sections of your store to reach the most customers with the same title.

BARCODE SOMETIMES, ALWAYS ... WHENEVER

Barcode every item, barcode some items, or barcode no items, and Basil will work regardless of your choice. You decide how your inventory is cataloged based on your store’s needs and environment.
